Wattmogul
An economic strategy game about the energy transition, played over ten years from 2026 to 2035, inspired by Oil Imperium (reLINE Software, 1989) on the Amiga 500. Lease sites, get permits, build wind, offshore, solar, storage and hydro, connect them to the grid, and outplay three rival companies.
In the game
Four regions
Wind on the coast, offshore parks in the North Sea, solar in Iberia and hydro in the Alps, each with its own landscape and seasons.
From lease to grid
Every site goes through lease, permit, construction and grid connection. Permits get rejected and faults need fixing. Short mini-games, such as laying cables or mounting a rotor, decide how well construction goes.
Market and bank
The electricity price changes every quarter. Loans help you grow faster, as long as the cash flow holds.
Dirty tricks
Slow down the competition with a lawsuit against a permit, a stirred-up citizens’ initiative or a hacker attack. If it comes out, you may have to pay a fine.
What’s next
Today the rival companies follow fixed rules. The next version runs on a server, and a language model takes over the competition.
AI-run competitors
Each rival company gets its own personality and strategy: cautious, aggressive or a saboteur. The model sees only what that company can see and answers with structured moves.
Explainable moves
Rivals briefly justify their decisions. You read them as press releases or rumours in your quarterly report.
Negotiations
Make offers to rival companies, such as buying a site or sharing grid capacity, and negotiate with them in a chat.
A server that checks every rule
The game state lives on the server, which validates every move the AI proposes before it takes effect.
